One day I will add more context. This is a small example of some of the messages I’ve been sent over the last week. A majority of my messages are quite nice and interesting, and of course those are the ones I won’t be posting. Here are a few that I’m sure some women with accounts will recognize.
Under 'You should message me if', I have "A strong independent black woman who don’t need no man" listed because I have a difficult time writing serious bullshit about myself. I sincerely appreciate the wit in the first half of this message, but I have no idea where this dude thinks he’s going with the last bit. “That thing that you like? I have something better and I hope you are impressed by my unnecessary need to be competitive. Sorry.” Didn’t respond, because I had no idea what to say without being an ass in return. My profile says I have cats and like dogs.
The ol’ follow-up-in-a-panic message. The second one was sent in the same day. I’m not really smiling in any of my pictures…
My hair is purple in my profile picture. Generic robot message c+p to all the wimenz.
Ok, some context behind this one: I have goth clubs and British culture listed on my profile (British culture as in British culture and politics, not just pop culture). I don’t believe I have ever come across anyone who fakes a British accent in order to exert coolness. It actually exerts the opposite in my opinion. It appears that this person is trying to link pretending to be British with being goth, and asking me if I like to pretend I’m British. The answer is no, that’s stupid, and I don’t appreciate the fact that you correlate goth culture with pretending to be British. Next time don’t send a message to someone that implies you are making fun of something they are fond of - it might earn you a response.
I have MANY more ridiculous messages that might be posted later in a second OkCupid review. But cynicism aside, I’ve also received a lot of fantastic messages that I will maybe one day share when I’m in the right mood.
